MITOCHONDRIAL MAKEOVER: HORMONE BALANCE

As we progress with the mitochondrial makeover series, we realize how mitochondria enhancement contributes to renewed health and vitality. As an added bonus, mitochondrial optimization leads to improved hormone production and balance.

Enhancing mitochondrial function and biogenesis with nutritional ketosis, intermittent fasting, high-intensity interval training and targeted supplementation, plays a tremendous role in hormone production and hormone balance.

For example, all of the components of mitochondrial rejuvenation stimulate growth hormone production which supports muscle mass, fat-burning metabolism, and body composition, as well as upgrading our immune system and brain function.

Fine-tuned mitochondria production and function leads to enhanced hormone production and function.  Simultaneously, hormone optimization protects mitochondria, slows mitochondrial decay, and increases mitochondrial biogenesis.  It is a synergist cycle of cellular enhancement.

Peak mitochondria performance promotes hormone balance; peak hormone balance promotes greater mitochondrial performance.

In essence, mitochondrial precision allows us to generate improved levels of many hormones including, but not limited to, growth hormone, testosterone, estrogen, and thyroid. All of these hormones contribute greatly to a more youthful physiology.

The list of benefits of achieving youthful hormone levels is extensive, and will be covered in future posts on hormone therapy. For now, we will focus the discussion on hormones in the context of our mitochondrial makeover efforts.

The interplay between mitochondria and hormones is fascinating.

When we have youthful, enriched mitochondrial function, we generate youthful hormone balance. When we have youthful hormone balance, we protect mitochondria and stimulate mitochondrial production. A true win-win in the antiaging realm!

Hormones, such as estrogen, testosterone, growth hormone, and thyroid, aid mitochondria in many ways, including:

*Stimulate mitochondrial biogenesis.

*Regulate and improve mitochondrial function.

*Protect against mitochondrial oxidative damage.

*Dampen inflammation to further protect mitochondria and slow mitochondrial decay.

*Directly modulate the expression of mitochondrial genes crucial for                                       mitochondrial function and efficient ATP energy production.

*Potentiate the impact of exercise, fasting and supplements on mitochondrial                        biogenesis improving both mitochondrial quantity and quality.

Mitochondrial functions aid hormones in many ways, including:

*Play many essential roles in the biosynthesis of hormones.

*House crucial enzymes necessary for hormone synthesis

*Maintain cells that produce hormones.

*Coordinate hormone signaling to maintain proper physiology.

Interactions between mitochondrial function and hormone actions directly influence our healthspan, keeping us youthful for longer!

Since mitochondrial damage promotes hormone deficiencies, we must protect our mitochondria.

Mitochondrial dysfunction leading to hormone deficiencies accelerates the destructive internal forces accelerating the pace of aging. With suboptimal mitochondria and the resulting hormone deficiencies, we experience diminished brain, heart and immune function as well as body composition changes such as weight gain, muscle and bone loss.

Without the benefits of mitochondrial restoration, we amplify mitochondrial decay and suffer from mitochondrial dysfunction, resulting in hormone deficiencies and accelerated aging.

Remarkably, with our mitochondrial makeover lifestyle, we offset mitochondrial decay, improve mitochondrial function, and optimize hormone levels to slow aging.

Mitochondria and hormone interactions are undoubtably impactful for health, yet sometimes we need to supplement our hormones to be our best.

In upcoming posts, we will delve into the transformative, youth-reviving, health benefits of hormone therapy for men and women.
