What is Anti-Aging Medicine?

Anti-Aging medicine is also referred to as Age Management medicine, Longevity medicine,  and Lifestyle medicine, to name a few.

It is proactive health care.

We focus on lifestyle interventions to optimize health and slow the aging process.

The human body has a remarkable ability to build and repair, regardless of our chronologic age. We utilize interventions that tap into this intrinsic ability of our bodies.

Most anti-aging programs utilize diet, nutraceuticals (nutritional supplementation), exercise, stress reduction and bio-identical hormone therapy.

Each component of an anti-aging program contributes to improved health and well-being. All components of the program work synergistically to optimize health, slow aging, and dramatically improve quality of life.

This is a medical program with an implicit goal of improving your quality of life!

There is no conflict with traditional medical care. We definitely want access to state-of-the-art medical care to put out our acute medical “fires” and tame our chronic medical conditions, but we need to take advantage of lifestyle interventions that can significantly decrease our risk of disease and improve the quality of our health. This strategy becomes the ultimate preventive care.

With an effective age management program we are usually able to decrease medication dosages and even eliminate the need for many prescription medications.

We typically see improvements in blood pressure recordings, blood sugar levels, cholesterol levels, body weight, bone density, mood and energy levels. As we document objective improvements in these areas we are often able to wean patients off various prescription medications.

Anti-aging medicine allows each of us to take more personal responsibility for our own health and life. When we become empowered to take personal responsibility for our health and wellness, we can attain true health reform.

In our current health care system we tend to underestimate the power of lifestyle interventions on our health. In future blogs we will discuss the role of healthy diet, nutraceuticals, exercise, bio-identical hormones, and stress management on optimal health and aging. We will learn about the erosive forces in our bodies that impact the rate of the aging process, and what we can do to slow them down.

Stay tuned.
